Conference site

The EuroTeX'98 conference will be held at a convenient conference site, Le Palais du Grand Large, in the historic corsair city of Saint-Malo. On the North coast of Brittany Saint-Malo is 65 km (40 miles) North of Rennes, and 350 km (200 miles) West of Paris.

Saint-Malo is a picturesque city surrounded by stones walls, on which one can make very pleasant walking tours with a nice view of the harbour, beaches and many neighbouring small islands. The city is built on a granite rock in the English Channel, and is joined to the mainland by a causeway. It was founded in the 6th century and, ever since the 16th century, has been the point of departure for many expeditions to the New World. Forever faithful to its adventurous maritime traditions, Saint-Malo today is home to many of the best-known sailing competitions.

How to reach Saint-Malo?

Saint-Malo is easily accessible:

• By train:
  take a TGV (high speed train) to Rennes directly from Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (about 3 hours) or from Paris-Montparnasse (about 2 hours). From Rennes, take a connecting train to Saint-Malo (about 1 hour).
  Reservations are required on the TGV; they may be made at any railway station (not necessarily the one from which you will be leaving), or through travel agencies. Other information about train trips is available here (soon to be translated in English)
  SNCF discount vouchers are available (please tick the appropriate box on the registration form). These vouchers will enable you to get a 20% rebate on the round-trip to Saint-Malo and back from anywhere in France, or from Geneva in Switzerland. Please note that these vouchers cannot be used on the Eurostar train from London, but special rates for this train may be available directly from your travel agent.
  
• By plane:
  - from Paris Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport or from Paris Orly airport to Rennes St Jacques airport (1 hour) with connections by train from Rennes to Saint-Malo
  - From London to Rennes (then 1 hour by train) or to Dinard/Saint-Malo airport (then 13km by taxi to the conference site) via the island of Jersey (once daily);
  - Direct flights from some other European airports to Rennes.
